How dentures have changed

The selection of dental treatments for replacement teeth has come a long way in recent years, with advances in technology and an improvement in the materials used to create the products making them more comfortable and better all round for denture wearers. However, it wasn’t always this way. At one time, dentures were considered as a last resort. They didn’t fit properly, they were uncomfortable and not very appealing. Luckily for people who need them, they have changed so much over the last three decades. Now, it is quite difficult to differentiate a denture from normal teeth.

But how have they evolved? Modern dentures are constantly evolving both in terms of quality and design. There are so many reasons why you may need replacement teeth and they can now be designed so that you can have a single tooth replaced or an entire row or even more. Although dentures are typically used by the elderly, they can be used by many different types of people and they certainly don’t look out of place.

If you need a denture today, they are made of acrylic resin or plastic material and they are custom made so they fit your mouth perfectly. There are many different types of dentures, but the main ones include:

  • Full denture – Used when none of the natural teeth can be saved and will sit over the gums as a completely new set of teeth.
  • Partial denture – When only a few natural teeth are missing, a partial denture can be created. They can be added onto a traditional dental palette and fitted with teeth where they are missing.
  • Implants – Technology is continuing to advance which means that implants are now an option. Dental implants are permanent, and they are more effective for speaking and chewing too.

The mouth can now be scanned, and dentures can be built to suit the shape of your mouth. There are so many options for false teeth, and they are so natural looking that they blend in with your existing teeth. With more advances in technology, they fit better so they almost feel like your natural teeth. They have certainly come a long way since they first started out many years ago and as the years progress, they will only get better and better.
